Millennium Club
The officers of the club met on a number of occasions to discuss the finances of the club. The playing facilities are in the process of being updated. The floodlights have already been refurbished at a cost to the club. The replacement of the roof is in hand, whilst improved and enlarged changing and shower facilities have been specified and priced, all of which will be funded by a long-term RFU loan to be repaid over thirteen years. The plans are posted in the clubhouse. The social area is also being looked at and a grant application is to be drawn up and submitted shortly. All this and as usual we have no money.Whilst a balance of the accounts has been achieved over the years this has been managed by judicious movement and balancing between various accounts to satisfy creditors. Additionally, members have carried out jobs in their own time and at their own expense. Others have made considerable donations to the club to permit unforeseen expenses to be satisfied. A massive 'THANK YOU' goes to all of you who have helped and continue to help the club in these ways. The haphazard approach was unsustainable in the long term, is unfair, and ignores the reality of the costs of the club which must be met on a regular basis over twelve months. Also we must repay all members' loans. A dependable regular source of income over twelve months of the year is required so that we can develop the Club, and the youth players from the strong Mini/Junior section, into the best rugby and social facility in the area - surely something to which we all aspire. The solution was the "Millennium Club".
Membership is £10 per month by Standing Order only. Forty signed up members at £10 will create an income of £480 per month. The donation element of this schemes will qualify under the government Community Clubs Scheme for tax relief resulting in an uplift of at least 28% on income generated. Based up 40 members, a £50 prize will be paid for 11 months with the end of the season prize of £1000. We have achieved this membership level and if membership continues to increase then the prizes will be similarly increased. If you would like to become a member please contact Brian Ellis.
